Brent Mayr: One of the most common mistakes that an individual makes when they’re involved in a motor vehicle accident is making statements by talking to individuals about what has occurred. An individual thinks, “Oh, I’m perfectly safe telling my insurance company this is what happened.” But I know, having been a former prosecutor, that those insurance records can be obtained by law enforcement, and the statements that are made to an insurance company can be used in a criminal prosecution. Because law enforcement is going to be investigating and pursuing criminal charges as well, you need to have a criminal attorney to protect you. Because a lot of times, me getting involved, I can keep charges from ever being filed in the first place, because I can take steps to keep that evidence from being turned over to insurance companies and subsequently being turned over to law enforcement.
